Absolute rarity
The only known six-cylinder Rekord A Cabriolet
Fully restored
From the Rekord A (built from 1963 to 1966), well over 1 million units were produced; it was available as a 2- or 4-door saloon, estate, panel van, or as an elegant coupé. A factory cabriolet, however, remained out of reach for the Opelians.
Thanks to two coachbuilding outfits, this wish was nevertheless fulfilled: Deutsch GmbH in Köln-Braunsfeld and Autenrieth of Darmstadt offered stylish Cabriolet conversions.
The basis was the coupé or the 2-door saloon. Deutsch charged 3, 750 DM for the conversion, which equated to a premium of about 30–50% of the list price.
While Autenrieth probably produced only a single car, according to unconfirmed expert estimates 11 Deutsch cabriolets were created. Today five are known to survive, with our car being the only one fitted with the six-cylinder.
The vehicle was photo-documented and restored a few years ago.
In the engine bay lies the original plaque from the coachbuilder "Karl Deutsch".
