Description
1969 Porsche 911T 2. 0 | Matching numbers | LHD | 5-speed manual | Original Burgundy 6808 | California car | Extensive restoration | UK registered
A particularly special and very well-sorted early 911T, finished in its rare original 6808 Burgundy and retaining its matching-numbers 2. 0-litre flat-six engine and five-speed gearbox.
The car was built on 3 September 1968 for the 1969 model year and spent the majority of its life in California. I purchased it in 2021 following a pre-purchase inspection which confirmed just how well preserved and solid the car was. It was subsequently imported and UK registered in 2022.
During my ownership I have spent approximately £17, 000, with invoices, sympathetically restoring and improving the car while retaining as much of its originality and period character as possible.
The body has been repainted in its original factory Burgundy (6808), a rare and beautiful colour which changes considerably depending on the light. The car has also been converted back from US specification to the correct European appearance, including European headlights and lenses.
One of my favourite aspects of the car is that it retains its original-style steel wheels and chrome hubcaps rather than the more commonly seen Fuchs alloys. Together with the period-style tyres, Burgundy paint and narrow early body, they give the car a particularly understated and original appearance.
Interior
The interior has been extensively restored and retrimmed in Houndstooth Pepita, which works beautifully with the Burgundy exterior. It has a new headliner, correct dashboard with period-correct mono speaker and genuine Coco Mats.
The original steering wheel, door furniture, instruments and other important period details remain. Even details such as the hand throttle, heater and door-operated interior lights work correctly.
The original factory stereo has also been retained, but I've had a hidden Bluetooth connection installed so music can be streamed without changing the period appearance of the dashboard.
Mechanical condition
The original matching-numbers 1, 991cc air-cooled flat-six was rebuilt in the USA before I bought the car.
Since being in my ownership it has been serviced annually by Tower Porsche, who have kept it tuned and running extremely well. More recent work includes a carburettor rebuild, new fuel pump and new batteries.
It starts reliably, runs beautifully and the five-speed gearbox is a genuine pleasure to use. It is exactly what an early 2. 0-litre 911 should feel like – light, mechanical and involving, with enough performance to enjoy properly on the road.
History & condition
The car spent most of its life in California and is exceptionally solid. It was described as having zero rust, something supported by the pre-purchase inspection carried out before I bought it.
It has always been kept by me in a dry underground garage and has never been intentionally used in wet weather during my ownership.
The paintwork has recently been professionally machine polished and the car presents extremely well throughout. I would describe it as approaching concours condition while still being a car that can actually be driven and enjoyed.
A Porsche GB letter confirms the important factory information, including:
* VIN: the details below
* Model: Porsche 911 T 2. 0
* Build date: 03/ 09/ 1968
* Model year: 1969
* Engine: 619 8012
* Transmission: 729 0002
* Original colour: Burgundy Red
* Original upholstery: Artificial leather, black
The car is historic-vehicle/ MOT and road-tax exempt in the UK.
It is an unusually attractive example of an increasingly desirable early 911: matching numbers, rare factory colour, California history, excellent structural condition, desirable five-speed transmission and a substantial amount of recent restoration work already completed.
It genuinely needs to be seen in person to appreciate the colour and overall condition.
Serious enquiries and inspections welcome.
