Description
The Lotus 23B represents the first evolution of the Lotus 23 (a 'C' model was sold in the USA from 1965). This model was fitted with the new 1558cc Twin Cam engine, producing 160bhp at a reduced weight of 480kg. The car was delivered in the USA to Eric Anderson, who entered the car in the USRRC Pacific Raceways USA events in 1966 and 1967, as well as the ACCS Westwood Motorsport Park events in Canada during the same years. The car was then imported to Great Britain in the 1970s, where it competed in numerous races between 1977 and 1984. In 1983-1984, it was driven by Stephen Mitchell. It was subsequently sold to Willy and Patrick Behar in London, then to Patrick Lansard and Jean-Pierre Mondonnet (1985), and finally to Robert Sarraihl in 1993. The car underwent a complete nut and bolt restoration between 2002 and 2004, during which a 63-litre fuel tank was fitted. It was sold to its last owner in 2006 and entered the Historical Endurance Challenge for the next three seasons. Since its acquisition, the engine has been overhauled, as have the transmission and clutch. The car has been serviced by the Ruphil garage, which specialises in Lotus cars, as well as by the Janssens garage in Braine-l'Alleud, Belgium, and has its old FIA carnets, issued by the FFSA.
