The Appeal
The Primaquatre was built to fit between the Monaquatre models and Renault’s more luxurious models, in so doing offering pre-war middle-class families a car that was spacious, comfortable and good value. The 1934 KZ24 retained the flowing ‘tail coat’ rear design that was replaced by the ‘aerodynamique’ style in 1935.
Any KZ24 survivor is now rare, but the pretty convertible is especially so. As this smart example shows, the detailing is compelling, including that rear styling and the large angled grille. This car was reportedly partially restored around 30 years ago, some years after it was acquired by the vendor’s father in the 1980s. The work included replacing the roof and retrimming the interior in brown vinyl.
The car is in tidy condition with a few cosmetic points to note in the photos. We’re told that it has always been dry stored, which has clearly helped preserve it. Buyers should bear in mind that it hasn’t been driven for a year.
The vendor says:
“Bought in the 1980s by my father, inherited about ten years ago. I don’t know the history; it has been driven very little and has been stored in a dry garage under a cover. Hasn’t been driven for a year.”
