The Appeal
The Land Rover Series 1 80-inch is where it all began. This is the original article, conceived in the late 1940s as a utilitarian workhorse and now recognised as one of the most historically significant British vehicles ever produced. It is undeniably a car that changed the world, and for many is still synonymous with off-roading.
This 1950 example is an impressive ambassador. Its first owner was a botanist who pressed the vehicle into service, travelling back-and-forth to Norway. It has since been comprehensively restored, with all galvanising fully redone, the paintwork professionally renewed, and the interior - including the seats and rubber seals - entirely replaced or renewed. The engine has been rebuilt within the last ten years and maintained since, and the vendor reports that it drives very well.
Since acquiring the vehicle in October 2024, the current registered keeper has stored it in a heated garage and carried out annual oil changes, with very little use during this time. A brand new canvas hood is included alongside the original hood, which has been retained for its patina. The vehicle comes with a history file of documents and a memory stick containing photographs taken over the years, which we're sure any enthusiast would love a good rifle through!
