The Appeal
The MG Midgets held onto the market for nearly twenty years, which is all the more remarkable if you consider the car's pre-war lineage. While many market expectations changed post-war, the T-Series remained stubbornly married to its charming upright grille and sweeping lines. It's for this reason it became almost quintessential with the British sports car - many American servicemen having become so besotted with its quaint lines that they took a T-Series home with them across the Atlantic!
However, even a legend runs out of steam eventually, and by 1954, tastes had changed so much that the T-Type looked like more and more of a curiosity. While they were knuckling down with the MGA, the chaps in Abingdon brought out the swan-song - the most powerful car in its lineage, the TF500.
A lower bonnet line, raked radiator, wire wheels and a boost of performance made this a deeply elegant car, and they're a much-loved classic to this day.
This particular example is noted as one of the very last UK right-hand drive cars to leave the Abingdon production line in April 1955, lending it particular historical significance. A comprehensive history file accompanies the car, and the vendor describes it as one of the most original examples in existence, reporting that the bodywork, trim, and mechanicals all present in fine order. For those seeking a TF1500 with genuine provenance and documented history, this one warrants close attention.image.png1.54 MB
