The Appeal
It's a great pity MG didn't continue its experiments with twin-cam engines. Minor teething troubles that a competent mechanic can easily remedy put a damper on the future of the B Series-based powerplant. Just think how wonderful it would have been if this engine had made it into more MGAs and into the long-lived MGB that was to follow. Developed to race and compete with Porsche and Alfa Romeo, the MG Twin Cam featured a cross-flow aluminium cylinder head. Power jumped dramatically to 108 bhp at 6,700 rpm, pushing the car to a top speed of 113 mph.
Produced in very limited numbers, just 2,111 examples left the factory, and today finding a well-kept, original example is a considerable challenge.
