Heir to one of the greatest four-door three-box sedans ever built, the original Alfa Giulia, the Spider convertible adds magnificent Pininfarina styling, offering buyers then, and arguably still today, the perfect post-war two-seat Italian cabriolet. Only 1,091 Spiders left the factory with the "Veloce" 1,600 cm³ "Nord" double overhead camshaft engine, and very few possess the exceptional specification and history of this 1965 Bianco. Restored in 1974, it benefited from major upgrades by renowned Turin tuner Virgilio Conrero, increasing its power from 112 to 139 bhp. The car was subsequently featured in the 1982 book "Les folles européennes de 1950-1965", which, according to the vendor, formally confirms the modifications made by Conrero. In 2017, it underwent a major mechanical restoration, at an estimated cost of €37,847. The rare gloss black hard-top was restored on this occasion.
The seller states that the car has known only two owners since leaving the factory, the current one having owned it for many years. He also states that the mileage of 80,000 km is correct, although this remains to be verified. This is a well-cared-for, well-maintained car, ready to be used and enjoyed.

"Bought new in 1972 as a first-hand car (used vehicle). Work carried out: 2 complete restorations (engine, bodywork and paintwork) in 1974, during which the car's power was increased from 112 bhp to 139 bhp (torque increased to 13.5 mkg at 4,300 rpm) by the famous Turin-based tuner Virgile Conrero, nicknamed "the magician of secret modifications". To achieve this result, no foreign parts were used, but extensive work was carried out on the cylinder head and camshafts, as well as perfect balancing of moving parts. The carburetors are two Weber 40DCOE2s modified at the ends (instead of the Weber 45DCOE14s usually used on the Veloce 1600 GTA). This gives a 27 hp gain without non-original parts."
"The rims have been replaced by Campagnolo 14-inch rims instead of 15-inch. The front and rear bumpers have been removed. The discreet "Conrero" emblem has been affixed to the front of the right-hand door. The sports steering wheel, adorned with the Alfa Romeo emblem in the center where the horn is located, completes the package."
"In 2017, the car was once again restored by its owner (with the exception of the paintwork and soft top): all the parts that were worn and needed replacing were. The soft top remains to be replaced (the soft top mechanism works: the paintwork is not perfect (blistering on the rear hood, dents on the front hood, minor wear on the bodywork). This white 1965 Alfa Romeo Spider bears witness to Pininfarina's beautiful lines. It's a neat, solid and well-maintained example, with room for improvement if the buyer so desires. However, if your aim is simply to use and enjoy this upgraded car, you may prefer not to bother.
Inside, the car retains many of its original features. It features a leather-rimmed Fusina steering wheel, with a wooden version also supplied. The soft top needs attention, but the very rare gloss black hardtop was restored in 2017 and is still in good condition.

The charm of this rare 1600 Veloce lies in these historic 1970s evolutions by the famous Turin-based tuner Virgile Conrero. The work increases power to 139 hp with similar torque improvements. A discreet Conrero badge on the car confirms the work.
The modifications made by Conrero are original, as attested by a 1982 reference book, offering a much improved driving experience. The car benefited from a major mechanical overhaul in 2017, costing around €40,000, which would have preserved these improvements. The current technical inspection is valid until 2027 and confirms that this is a Spider in perfect working order and very pleasant to drive.
