The Appeal

The Norton Electra holds a distinctive place in British motorcycling history as one of the first domestic machines to offer electric start, paired with a willing 400cc twin-cylinder engine and new-fangled 12V electrics. It boasted a lightweight frame, a fine top speed of 90mph and that quintessentially British styling - plenty to write home about.

With the overwhelming majority of production shipped to the American market, a UK-registered example is bound to turn heads, and we're pleased to say this example is a good ambassador.

This machine was manufactured in 1963 and first registered in Lincolnshire in 1965. It has been garaged throughout its known history and, having arrived with its current owner in 2017 in a filthy, oil-covered state, has since been cleaned up and now presents well. The engine and frame numbers do not match - the engine and gearbox having been changed at some point - though the engine number is notable, corresponding to one of the very last units produced by AMC at their Woolwich factory. DVLA records have been updated accordingly.
