The Attractions
The Fiat Dino was designed and launched to meet a pressing need. Ferrari had just developed its new Dino V6 engine and needed to homologate it for Formula 2. The F2 engines had to comply with very strict rules: they had to have no more than six cylinders and be derived from engines already fitted to GT-class production cars, at least 500 of which were produced within a 12-month period.
Ferrari was unable to build such a large number of units, so it turned to Fiat, which in turn insisted on handling all production in-house to ensure an adequate supply of engines for its cars. This proposal was not particularly well received in Maranello, but the deal was struck and the car debuted in 1966, initially with a Spider body and later, from 1967, also as a coupé.
Today, Dino's are among the most interesting classic cars of their era: fun, exciting and surprisingly robust, they have been appreciated for their extraordinary speed capabilities, great handling, excellent road-holding and the extraordinary sound offered by their very special engine. It is certainly one of the best Italian cars ever, and today examples in good condition are highly sought after.
This splendid Dino from the early years of production, in a vibrant and fascinating yellow colour scheme, has come down to us in mint condition. Extremely original throughout and still fitted with its iconic original Cromodora alloy wheels, it is a very attractive car indeed in every respect. Having been driven infrequently and with care, mainly to take part in concours d'elegance and historic rallies, it has accumulated very low mileage.
