No expense spared rally-spec build overseen by Irish Mini rallying specialists
1,380cc engine built by Mini rallying legend Lloyd Hutchinson, producing 140bhp
MED close-ratio dog gearbox with Quaife limited-slip differential
Barely used since full rebuild, with only a few hundred miles covered
Late 1969 manufacture, first registered in Ireland in January 1970
The Appeal
The classic Mini has long been a force to be reckoned with in rallying. Issigonis created a car that boasted diminutive dimensions, low weight and front-wheel-drive layout, which made for a bona fide giant-killer on the sports circuit. Rally-spec cars are still endlessly appealing, endlessly fun and loaded with character - so it's little wonder we expect this one to garner plenty of attention at auction.
This late 1969-manufactured car was first registered in Ireland in January 1970 and has since been transformed into a comprehensive rally machine under the guidance of some of Ireland's most respected Mini rallying figures. At its heart is a 1,380cc engine built by Lloyd Hutchinson - a name that needs no introduction in Mini rallying circles - producing a verified 140bhp on tap. Power is delivered through a MED dog gearbox with a Quaife limited-slip differential and heavy-duty driveshafts, while the chassis benefits from AVO coil-overs all round, KAD wide-track front hubs with six-pot alloy callipers, KAD rear disc brakes, reinforced subframes and a Stone Motorsport roll cage. Inside, there are OMP seats and harnesses, a Curley carbon-fibre dashboard, a Tilton fully adjustable pedal box and both handheld and plumbed-in extinguishers. It's an enviable competition spec.
Since the current owner's purchase, the car has covered only a few hundred miles and has benefitted from a new starter motor and racing clutch. The vendor notes that it's a remarkable car to drive, with instant power delivery and a wonderful soundtrack from the engine and gearbox - and is being offered for a fraction of what it cost to build.image.png1.36 MB
