The Appeal
At a time when it was bidding for competition glory, Ford developed and built just 250 RS3100 Capris. Finding one is the challenge; mustering deep enough pockets to buy one, yet another. Here is the next best thing - a bespoke RS3100 Evocation created by Britain's very own George Barris - Andy Saunders, the Automotive Alchemist, the Maestro of Metal, the King of Customizers.
In between devising ultra-low riders like the Mini 'Claustrophobia ', Fiat 126 'Flat Out ', and sculptures like Picasso's Citroen, in the 1980s Saunders somehow found the time to create this remarkable 200 hp Capri using a 1970 Mk1 3000GT as his base. The work took six years, completed in 1988, and included creating the RS3100 look, including a black hood and ducktail spoiler, and fitting a 3.1L Essex V6 tuned to deliver 200 hp and mated to a 5-speed manual box. The interior received a pair of figure-hugging sports seats, but was otherwise kept close to the original specification.
Since completion, the car underwent a further restoration in 2000, including a color change to the current red, and has been sparingly used. The condition remains very presentable, albeit with a few points for buyers to note in photos.
The key to this car is - find another. Rarer than an RS3100, certainly quicker, and with some fascinating provenance, this is a serious find for Fast Ford fans.image.png1.5 MB
