The Appeal
There's a purity and charm to F-Series 911s that continues to beguile enthusiasts. This Midnight Blue 1970 911T, with its sliding steel sunroof, brings to mind the similarly specified Slate Grey 911S that stars in the opening scenes of Steve McQueen's 'Le Mans'. Like McQueen, 911s of this vintage are effortlessly cool.
Our car carries a notable provenance. Delivered new by Porsche Cars Great Britain on 3rd July 1970, it remained under single family ownership for 56 years before being acquired by the current owner in August 2024. Having spent time in South Africa in the early 1970s before returning to the UK, the car underwent regular servicing for a period, then was eventually placed in storage.
Rather than subjecting it to a heavy-handed restoration, the owner took a considered approach: a sympathetic mechanical and cosmetic recommissioning addressing brakes, service items, bodywork corrosion, interior trim and wheels. A small number of discreet upgrades were added for everyday usability, including a Becker Mexico radio with Bluetooth and a USB charging point, while the original steering wheel has been retained alongside the newly fitted sports wheel.
The result is a charming and usable early 911 T that has been carefully brought back to life without losing the patina and character that make finds of this calibre so appealing. We admire the current custodians' decision not to over-restore this car. The simple matter is that it doesn't need it. As the photographs attest, this car presents beautifully, wearing a gentle patina commensurate with age.
What has happened instead is that a series of smaller jobs have been undertaken such as the reupholstering of the seats, renewal of various seals and the rectification of localised corrosion. There have also been some subtle updates, including the fitment of a smaller sports steering wheel, a Bluetooth hands-free adaptor, and a USB charging point.

The 'T' was technically the entry-level 911, but with simplicity comes lightness. That's why the 911T has long been regarded as the driver's choice. Weighing in at just a whisker over 1,000 kilograms, it puts that relatively modest 125 bhp to good use, and the handling of these revised wheelbase 911s was far superior to that of its pre-1969 predecessor.
A similar approach of sympathetic preservation over unnecessary restoration has been taken in the care of this car's mechanicals. Various recommissioning jobs were undertaken, as detailed above, and the car has recently undergone a comprehensive service with a marque specialist encompassing replacement of the battery, spark plugs, fuel filter, oil filter and air filter. Reported to be driving well, this car is ready for its next keeper.
