The Appeal
The Alpine A110 is rightly celebrated as one of the finest lightweight sports cars ever created, with a competition pedigree that includes outright victory at the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally and the 1973 World Rally Championship. To this day, it remains a thrilling, beautifully styled and highly capable driver's car that punches well above its weight on both road and stage.
Our 1971 A110 1300 is a very special example that has been comprehensively restored and upgraded for both rally use and spirited road driving. The body was totally restored between 2020 and 2021, then finished in the iconic, highly desirable Alpine Blau 331, with the entire process photo-documented.
The engine has been rebuilt and tuned by Jo Arne Berg, a renowned engine builder, using a 1,457cc Renault 5 Turbo engine block fitted with race cams and double Dellorto 40mm carburettors, producing an impressive 124.7 hp on the dyno.
Between 2023 and 2024, the car received extensive further work, including a new interior from the respected French specialist Les Selliers du Domaine, refurbishment of the rare original Mod'Plastia seats, a complete electrical system overhaul, suspension rebuild, and comprehensive mechanical refreshment. The vendor informs us that, as a result, the car is ready to rally or enjoy on winding roads.
The car comes with a well-documented history, including its original instruction book and details of its previous owners, notably including a famous Swedish racing driver. Having been used to instruct racing drivers in both Spain and Sweden, this A110 has genuine competition provenance and really ticks all of the boxes. A truly winning classic car through-and-through.
The vendor says:
"A wonderful piece of rally history carefully restored to keep some of the history still in the car. Well documented and drives perfectly. If you only want one car in your collection – even just to look at – this is it. It is small, but I am 188 cm high and fit like a glove. This is a car you will fall in love with the second you turn the key."

Taking in the Alpine A110, it's hard not to have your breath taken away. Giovanni Michelotti's styling remains effortlessly cool, with sleek curves and purposeful streamlining rubbing shoulders with distinctive aluminium metalwork and a characterful set of headlights. It's the sort of car that looks fast even when it's stood still.
This one has been fully restored between 2020 and 2021 - with Alpine Blau 331 paintwork that suits it to the ground. The bodywork is remarkable from top to bottom, with a fine lustre and beautifully kept accents. The smooth Michelotti-penned lines and surfaces all appear in excellent order. Elsewhere, new seals are fitted throughout and steel reinforcements have been fitted to the door pillars and rear-quarter window mounts, and 1,000-metre Cibie lights have been installed to boot.
It's certainly an impressive example outside - and the same remains in that handsome cabin, too. Mod'Plastia seats in great condition, while the rest of the cabin has been entirely redone to a high standard with parts from Les Selliers Du Domaine of France.. It's a remarkable place for driver and passenger alike.
Underneath, the car appears solid and well-kept, with all suspension parts restored and everything reportedly refurbished. DSCF2104.jpg335.05 KB
