The Appeal
The long-bonnet 911 is widely regarded as the purest expression of Porsche's iconic sports car, and the Targa variant has become particularly prized, bringing one of these rasping sports stars into pure top-down theatre. The 2.2-litre cars produced between 1970 and 1971 occupy a particularly sweet spot in the 911's evolution, offering increased capacity over the earlier 2.0-litre models while retaining the delicate proportions and mechanical purity that later, heavier iterations would gradually dilute.
This 1971 911E Targa is offered as a restoration project. It is not a matching-numbers car; the 2.2-litre 911E chassis is fitted with a 2.2-litre 911T engine running on carburettors rather than the original mechanical fuel injection. Currently finished in Signal Yellow, it's already a fine looker. For anyone seeking a long-bonnet project with genuine potential, this is well worth your attention.
