The Appeal

Billed by the Walklett brothers as a ‘luxury sports coupe ’, the G15 was really much more of a stripped-back, lightweight road rocket. Its Imp mechanicals may have mustered just 55bhp, but at a featherweight 540kg it didn’t need bhp to be quick and hugely entertaining.

This Mk3 is chassis number 306 and finished in stand-out Firecracker Orange. It is well known car thanks to features in Practical Classics and Octane, both of which document the car’s interesting resurrection. We’re told that it remained with the first keeper until 2011. It was used as a family car for its first decade, before being laid up in 1982 due to engine failure. It remained in storage for 29 years before being recovered and rejuvenated by a previous keeper. The vendor tells us that the sub-14,000 miles displayed on the odometer is correct. That history implies it is, although we can’t verify it. The car comes with a large history file including original factory invoices.

The car is in very good order and nicely detailed with Ginetta-branded wheel and period alloys. As a Mk3 it benefits from the much-improved heating system, borrowed from Triumph.

With its lightweight agility, any G15 is a sports car to prize. This car’s condition, colour and history makes it stand out.
