The Appeal
The TR6 is one of classic motoring’s perennials and with good reason: crisp Karmann lines, grunty 2.5L straight six and the sort of analogue, engaging driving experience that otherwise seems lost to the mists of time.
This 1973 USA-spec LHD TR6 is an extremely tidy example that has been enthusiast-owned by the current keeper since 2013. It is a genuinely lovely example, finished in classic, factory-correct Old English White with a two-tone leather interior that closely follows the original light blue factory spec. It is a well-travelled car that began its life in New Orleans before arriving in Monte Carlo, where we’re told it was used as an advertising vehicle, and then to the Netherlands from where it arrived in the UK in 1990.
The car retains its USA spec twin SU carburettor set up, which many consider more reliable than the European injection arrangement, and benefits from a long list of recent work. We’ve detailed that below, but highlights include a new Mohair roof, carpets, brake overhaul and replacement Hankook tyres. It was fitted with a new battery just prior to sale.
We think that even TR6 aficionados will be impressed by the photos. Key points to note are the even door fit and gaps, and the quality of the underside. This pretty TR6 looks ready to enjoy, perhaps for a summer European road trip.
The vendor says:
“General condition of the vehicle is exceptional considering its age, over 50. Hasn’t done many miles (<4000) in the last 14 years and has always been reliable. No obvious signs of rust or body damage, including underneath, is in very good condition. Many items renewed, e.g. Stainless exhaust, tyres, roof, etc., and since the latest ownership has been dry stored (since 2012). All instruments and switches operate together with the new radio/CD unit.
“Engine starts, runs well and under the bonnet is clean and tidy. Most recently, new carburettor air filter units were fitted together with some stainless-steel fixtures. New coil, plugs and leads fitted. Great example of a Triumph sports car suitable for a TR6 enthusiast.”
