The Appeal
The TR6 was the last of a certain type of roadster, one that is quintessentially British too. Thoroughly analogue, devoid of driver aids and with a powerful straight six beneath the lengthy bonnet, these cars are for people who love driving and love to actually drive the car.
If that’s you, then this car is worth your time because it is a TR6 that has taken that idea way beyond what Triumph could muster on its production lines. It now sports a 175bhp engine supplied by specialist Enginuity and featuring stage two cylinder head, fast road cam, extraction manifold, lightweight flywheel and Lumenition ignition. The differential and overdrive units were also rebuilt. That motor is the centrepiece of a high-end older restoration by Chestnut House Sports Cars, the Triumph and MG specialists in Cambridgeshire. The work is completed by a set of expensive AC Cobra three-eared wire wheels shod with quality Dunlop SP rubber. It is a testament to the car’s subsequent keepers that its Pimento Red paintwork and tan roof and interior present so well today.
For much of the car’s recent history it has been part of a private museum where it was dry-stored in a dehumidified environment. The vendor tells us that it has been recently recommissioned and is in very good working order. It is scheduled for a professional tune and service at a top classic specialist in Glasgow prior to sale
The vendor says:
“Not to be confused with a run of the mill TR6. This stunning bespoke individual example must be among the very best surviving today. The car comes from almost 9 years in a classic museum collection with its catalogue badge still on the window and remains in incredible condition. Now recommissioned. Boasting a complete from new history file and a very special performance upgrade. Particularly special is the ultra rare Cobra chrome wire wheel conversion complete with matching 195 x 65 R15 Dunlop SP Sport B8 tyres; an exceptional and bespoke addition to cope with this cars heightened performance.
“Between 1987-1988 this TR6 underwent a total restoration with every part of the car renewed or attended to. All work was carried out by Chestnut House Sports Cars, Triumph and MG specialists in Cambridgeshire. All parts were supplied by the TR Shop, and Cox and Buckley, TR specialists.
“CP engine No. 6700UE was supplied by Enginuity Sports and Performance Car Specialist, London. The car has covered a mere 16,000 miles since complete rebuild.
“Due to dehumidified storage, little use and being a museum item in a private collection the car remains in Grade 1 condition after nearly 40 years, testament to the superb quality of the historic restoration.”
