The Appeal
The CB750 was, still is, pivotal. It launched the ‘UJM’, once a term of derision, now the opposite, and kick-started the modern superbike era. Its inline four was smooth and reliable, parts supply was good and inexpensive, and, of course, it rode and went extremely well. All reasons why these bikes remain so central to classic bike culture.
Honda launched the ‘Super Sport’ in 1975 with the original ‘F0’. Identifiable by their slimmer, sleeker fuel tanks, 4-into-1 exhaust and flatter handlebars, these bikes featured uprated engines with revised cylinder head, larger valves and hotter cam to deliver around 67 bhp. The F1 arrived in 1976, lightly tweaking the formula with revised paint schemes and adjustments to the rear seat cowl. It proved the most popular of four Super Sport models, with 44,000 sold worldwide.
This freshly restored Sulfur Yellow F1 is a timely reminder of just why these bikes were so overwhelmingly successful. It is a UK market bike that the vendor bought it in 2010, subsequently restoring it over five years across all areas. Work has included renovating and painting the frame, stands and arms, repainting the tank, respoing the wheels and fitting new Dunlop tyres and fully rebuilding that 4cyl powerhouse. The carburettors have also been overhauled.
The bike is said to run and ride extremely well with no issues. We know how enduringly popular the SuperSport is, and this factory-correct example is one of the nicest we’ve seen in a while. It is sold with a collection of useful spares.
The vendor says:
“Engine has been rebuilt, all carburettors cleaned, rebalanced and service kit. New wheel bearings and all seals
“Drives well like stepping back into the 70's, reminds me of how bikes used to sound in my youth.”
