The Appeal
When Rolls-Royce unveiled the Camargue in 1975, it was the most expensive production car in the world - and it looked the part. Styled by Pininfarina and built in tiny numbers at Crewe, the Camargue was a grand touring coupé of extraordinary presence, with just 531 examples leaving the factory over a twelve-year production run. Today, it remains one of the most distinctive and collectible post-war Rollers; a car that sits well beyond its stablemates and offered the uppermost comfort, luxury and opulence to the true echelons of society.
This early 'first series' left-hand-drive example, chassis JRX23060, was ordered in March 1975 for the European market and delivered the following year to its first owner in Monaco, where it was registered on 15th May 1976. It is reported to be the only surviving Camargue in its original Highland Green livery, a claim confirmed by the Rolls-Royce registry. It spent over 36 years with its original owner, shuttling between Monaco and Geneva, before passing through just three further hands in the decades since.
A mechanical and cosmetic restoration was undertaken in 2012–2013, including a replacement gearbox and a high-quality repaint in the original Highland Green. More recently, Rolls-Royce specialist Chelsea Workshop has carried out a thorough programme of mechanical work. With circa 66,000 kilometres recorded and a well-documented history stretching back to the factory build sheets, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a truly singular Camargue that's ready and waiting for its lucky new owner.
The vendor adds:
"The car starts on the button and runs reliably with a comprehensive upgrade to the fuel delivery, carburation, and ignition systems, delivering a pleasurable driving experience with commensurate fuel economy for this model. Excellent results on engine compression and oil pressure tests recently.
"In recent years, JRX23060 has been conveying its lucky passengers between London, Manchester, Paris and Antwerp after its 36 years shuttling from Monaco to Geneva and around Belgium, Holland and Germany, totalling 66,000 km in total… with only four
