The TVR 3000S was the last in the M series of cars that led the company into the modern era, paving the way for increased levels of success. Based on a backbone chassis with a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) body and all-round double wishbone suspension, the series was highly rated by contemporary reviewers for its strong performance and excellent roadholding. The ‘S’ model benefits from a range of improvements and enhancements over the earlier models.
 
This example – believed to be one of only 258 made – was built in 1978, but first registered in 1981. It is finished in white, with black bumpers and black fabric roof, complemented by the two-tone ‘T-spoke’ alloy wheels of the era. The bright chrome trim includes the surrounds for the windscreen and the sliding side curtain windows, which can be stowed in the boot. In addition to the boot, there is storage behind seats.
 
Stepping over the chequered treadplates, the cabin features black upholstery with patina, and a dashboard with full instrumentation: rev counter, voltmeter, speedometer, fuel gauge, and oil pressure and water temperature gauges directly ahead of the driver. In front of the chrome gearstick, a modern stereo with touchscreen has been fitted.
 
Beneath the distinctive clamshell bonnet, the Ford three-litre Essex V6 benefits from a K&N air filter. The engine is coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox, and sends its power to the rear wheels. The chassis and underside of the car can be seen clearly in the pictures.
 
The car comes with plentiful documentation, including pictures showing body-off work. It’s now time for a new owner to enjoy classic TVR performance and rear-wheel drive fun, with the roof down or up.
