The Appeal
Rolls-Royce had extremely rich international jetsetters in its sights when it launched the Camargue right into the heart of the economic and fuel crisis of 1975. Pininfarina's first post-war Italian design for Rolls-Royce, it ushered in a bold, crisp style that split contemporary opinion but has aged extremely well.
Over an 11-year run, just 529 people found the equivalent of £350,000 required to buy one. The first keeper of this car reportedly ran bingo halls, which may explain his decision to add picnic tables, twin rear cocktail cabinets, a rear television cabinet, extra veneered speaker grilles and air vent grilles, and a centre console with a veneered inner lid to the standard specification. Like those features sealed the deal for its second keeper, who ran The Flamingo Club in Blackpool.
Beautifully presented in Claret, one of just two Camargues in this colour, paired with Nuella Stone leather, this is a really tidy car that comes to market fresh from £20,000 of renovation work by marque specialist Harvey Wash. Work covered servicing, replacing nearly all the hoses, carburettor overhaul, new tyres and brake and suspension work. It comes with a useful voluntary MOT valid to September 2027. Approximately 1,000 miles have been covered since this work was completed, and the vendor reports the car runs and drives very well.
The vendor says:
“I have done approximately 1,000 miles in the car since the specialist work was completed, and it runs and drives very well, and it has been enjoyable to drive and reliable.
“A well sorted and very attractive example with a unique specification which is fun and easy to drive and fast becoming a design icon in classic car circles.”
