The Appeal
Nothing quite sums up the 80s like a Guards Red 911 with a big whale tail. That iconic spoiler was part of the factory Sport Equipment pack, and it was such a common sight around London’s financial district when new because 80% of UK buyers selected it. The package also included Bilsten shocks, lowered ride height, 16in Fuchs, short shift gearcange and sports seats.
The photos of this much-loved 1985 Guards Red Carrera Sport transport us straight back to those days, not least because it is in such good condition. Beyond the sought-after cosmetic specification, aficionados will know that this 1985 car is rather special because 3.2 Carrera was the last evolution of the original 911 lineage before the introduction of the 964. Right-hand drive examples are comparatively scarce and command strong interest on the UK market.
It has been in the hands of the current keeper since 2006, and it’s fair to say, certainly judging by the history file, that he has lavished it with investment. The history file is thick and shows a ream of invoices, mostly by Porsche specialist Marque 21, for ongoing work. Since 2023, over £5,000 has been spent on servicing, new front shocks and a refurbished tachometer. In 2026 alone, the car was serviced, received two new Goodyear tyres to rectify MOT advisories, and had its central locking and heater system repaired. Take out the subsequent rectifications and the current MOT, now merely voluntary, is otherwise clean.
That is all a preamble to the car’s condition. For a 41-year-old 911, it is extremely well presented, which that MOT verifies. It is largely standard save for a set of smart split-rim Speedlines, Cup mirrors and a Momo wheel. The original Fuchs are available to buyers by separate negotiation.
With 20 years of devoted custodianship and the desirable personalised registration included in the sale, this Carrera Sport presents a compelling opportunity for the next keeper.

This well-preserved car looks magnificent, an effect helped by the switch to split-rim Speedlines. Inside, the interior is largely standard, save for what may be retrimmed front seats, which feature red piping, unlike the rears.
The car features a few modifications, listed above. The vendor says the whale tail is an addition, but it normally comes as part of the Sport package. We are told that these desirable modifications can be easily removed if the buyer prefers originality. The original Fuchs can be acquired separately from the seller.

A deep-dive enthusiast will know this is the original, pre-964 air-cooled 911 to have. These cars came equipped with the larger 3.2L flat six, now good for 231bhp, while retaining the simple, analogue, unassisted feel of the earliest models.
Here is a very well-maintained and clearly cherished 911. The history file is vast and includes detailed notes, attesting particularly to the care of its current long-term keeper. The car has been well kept throughout that time. In recent years, as detailed above, over £5,000 has been spent to improve areas such as central locking, shock absorbers, the tacho, and the heating system. The car has generally been looked after since 2006 by specialist Marque 21, including a recent service in May 2026.
The MOT is now advisory and contains no outstanding mechanical or running gear advisories.
