The Appeal
The Ferrari 412 marks the final chapter of Ferrari’s classic front-engined V12 four-seater, a model that quietly blended luxury, usability, and unmistakable Maranello pedigree. Produced in very limited numbers, it was aimed at buyers who valued refinement over flamboyance, with fuel injection and the smooth GM TH400 automatic bringing a more relaxed grand touring character. With just 61 right-hand drive examples built with auto boxes for the UK market, the 412 Auto remains a rare and often overlooked Ferrari, made all the more intriguing by the seller’s remark that it was the final model driven by Enzo Ferrari himself.
Manufactured in March 1988 and first registered in the UK that May, this example was supplied new by Maranello Sales LTD and remains attractively presented in Blue Medio with a Sabbia Hide interior. The car has been in the current ownership since April 2017, shows an indicated 35,225 miles, and is accompanied by a healthy history file including service invoices, manuals, and its original book pack. The seller explains that it has been “stored in a dehumidified garage for the last 10 years” and adds that, “after a period of limited use, it was recommissioned in May 2025 by Emblem Sports Cars in Poole for £8,000.”
Conditionally, the car strikes an appealing balance between originality and honest use. There is some paint cracking to the bonnet edge, light stone chips, and scuffs to the front end, along with faint outlines where Ferrari badges have been removed on the rear pillars, all in keeping with age. The interior presents particularly well, with the Sabbia Hide seats and door cards showing only minor blemishes, complemented by blue carpets and an intact, if lightly discoloured, dark blue dashboard.
At its heart sits Ferrari’s 4.9-litre V12, working seamlessly with the automatic gearbox to deliver effortless, refined performance. The seller notes that “the exhaust system, so often the Achilles heel of these cars, was replaced some years ago at massive expense”. Summing up their ownership, they describe it as “a super car to drive”, praising the steering, suspension, and engine, and offering the personal view that “the auto gearbox is the one to have”, reinforcing the 412’s reputation as a refined and surprisingly rewarding Ferrari grand tourer.
The vendor says:
“All I can say is this is a super car to drive. Perfect steering, perfect engine, amazing suspension and roadholding. The auto gearbox is the one to have (don’t let anybody try to convince you that a manual is a nice thing - it isn’t!) There is a reason that this was the final car driven by Enzo Ferrari himself.”
