The Appeal
The 1980s were a time of significant change for Land Rover. The decade saw the end of leaf-sprung Series production and the advent of coil-sprung Ninety and One Ten models, later to be called the 'Defender'.
This 1988 One Ten Station Wagon has been comprehensively restored and extensively modified. It is powered by the robust 300 Tdi engine and, unusually, an automatic gearbox, offering a far more relaxed driving experience than most Land Rovers of this vintage.
The car has been subject to a comprehensive ground-up rebuild, with corrosion resistance at the heart of the project. A galvanised chassis, bulkhead, doors, cappings, B and C posts, and heavy-duty hood sticks form the structural foundation, while stainless steel hinges, a Heritage stainless steel front bumper, and a stainless steel nut and bolt set throughout speak to the thoroughness of the work. Inside, nine Heritage cream and ebony leather seats by Exmoor Trim set a premium tone, complemented by a luxury carpet set, Motolita steering wheel, and JVC DAB radio. The soft top roof on a five-door Station Wagon is a real rarity and a nice feature.
Underneath, all-new Terrafirma components, including a full polybush kit and braided brake hoses, ensure the running gear matches the quality of the bodywork. The vehicle has recently been checked over by a local Land Rover specialist, and the vendor informs us it was found to be in very good order. With a valid MOT until March 2027 and historic vehicle status on the horizon, this rebuilt and tastefully enhanced Land Rover is well worth a closer look. 230726 Land Rover Defender E284 GPD 001.JPG1.78 MB
