The Appeal
When conversation amongst enthusiasts turns to the best modern classic Porsche, chances are the answers involve rear engines and beetle-back profiles. But there’s another car that can lay claim to that title, and it’s not a 911. The GTS was the final evolution of the 928, and it’s not just the best version of Porsche’s grand tourer; it might just be the best GT ever built. Don’t just take our word for it - Goodwood Road & Racing, Octane magazine, Classic & Sportscar and Hagerty have all said the same.
Any 928 is good, because of the way it was built, how it looks and how it engages and drives, but the GTS reigns supreme. The most powerful, the fastest and the most luxurious, just 2,904 were built between 1992 and 1995, of which only a few hundred had the desirable, perhaps even essential, manual gearbox of this 1993 Oak Green example. It has to be one of the most original and best-maintained currently available.
We’re told that the car was first registered in Greece in 1993 before arriving in the UK with its original keeper in 1996. The current owner acquired it in 1997, and it’s fair to say he’s maintained it without concern for expense ever since. The service book shows 27 stamps, most recently in June 2026, all undertaken by Porsche main dealers and well-regarded specialists. There are also invoices for over £7,500 of generally minor remedial work by Porsche Brooklands since 2023. The cambelt and water pump were changed in June 2022, under 2,000 km ago. The current MOT reinforces the impression of a highly maintained and well-sorted car - it runs until June 2027 with no advisories.
Aside from the provenance, this really is a beautifully presented car. It is painted in attractive Oak Green metallic which is matched to a Cashmere beige leather cabin. We’re told that the car has never been restored, so there are a few light signs of wear. They could be lived with or easily remedied.
With just 77,700 documented miles from new, this is a very good example of these increasingly collectable GTs.
The vendor says:
“This is without doubt one of the classic grand Porsche tourers which lends itself to both long journeys and trips to the supermarket. It can be driven aggressively, racing through the gears, or lazily, doing almost everything in 5th. With speed restrictions in the UK spoiling top speed enjoyment what I have loved most is the ability to swerve on a racing line around bends and across roundabouts with only so much deceleration as is absolutely necessary.”

The car is absolutely beautiful, I think the colour is adventurine green and not oak green. Can you confirm. Thank you very much

SellerThank you. I knew that the German language colour name is aventuragrünmetallic and naturally assumed that the otherwise very competent Car & Classic team had correctly translated that with Oak Green. Not so! I’d also done a very quick superficial search which produced no result but now it does. Will request correction on Monday.
