The Appeal
There are rugged pick-ups, and then there is the HiLux. Its reputation is built on news reels of battered examples clawing their way across the desert—and, of course, on Top Gear’s failed attempts to destroy one. Then there’s Back To The Future…
This remarkable 2000 sixth-generation HiLux is likely one of the very best available anywhere. It channels those movie vibes thanks to a comprehensive restoration in January 2025 that the seller describes as ‘nut and bolt.’ This is where that over-used phrase really does apply, because we’re told that absolutely everything was refurbished or replaced during the process.
Resprayed in smart metallic blue, sat on a refurbished chassis, and detailed with chrome and a light bar, this is one stylish HiLux. Under the bonnet, the rugged 2.4L turbodiesel engine has been fully rebuilt. The vendor describes the mechanical condition as ‘like new.’ And as you can see, it also has an Old Man Emu 4-inch lift kit.
This truck is genuinely too good to be worked hard, so we’re not surprised to learn that since completion it’s spent its life in a dry, heated garage—only coming out for shows. With an MOT running long to September 2026, this is a very special truck where the heavy lifting has already been done.
The vendor says:
“This Hilux is a collector-grade example of Toyota’s legendary 4x4 — restored to a standard rarely seen on these models.
“It drives exactly as it did when new: tight, responsive, and perfectly balanced.
The combination of new mechanicals, fresh paintwork, upgraded suspension, and a comfortable modernised interior makes it an exceptionally enjoyable vehicle both to drive and to show.
“It has been lovingly built, always garaged, and cherished as part of a private collection.
What I love most about it is how solid, smooth, and new it feels — a genuine time capsule of the classic Hilux, rebuilt with passion and precision.”
