The Appeal
The S4 shifted to the liquid cooling, 4V 916cc V-Twin from Ducati’s superbike, but in all other respects it was Monster business as usual. Distinctive, lightweight trellis frame, no nannying aids, top components and, of course, that dry clutch with its sonic loud, metallic race-derived clatter.
This early M4 Variant 00 Version AA S4 remained in dry storage for two decades in Northern Ireland before being recommissioned for the seller in late 2023 by Desmo guru David Robinson. That work included full check over, remedial work to to fueling and ignition systems and a full service. During this process the vendor tells us that it was returned to OEM Ducati parts. It has subsequently returned to Robinson in November 2024 and more recently March 2026 for service work. Aside from servicing work the tacho was replaced in 2025. The current MOT runs to March 2027 with a couple of minor advisories to note.
As a very low mileage bike showing under 10,000 miles from new, the condition is impressive. The vendor advises a couple of minor marks on the black and Senna Grey paintwork, noted below, but looking at the photos you’d be hard pressed to find them on this 25 year old bike. It is said to be largely standard, featuring gold Marchesini wheels and Caron Termignoni exhausts.
A TfL NOx emission conversion has also been completed, making it compliant for use within London's ULEZ and LEZ zones — an increasingly valuable attribute for city-based riders.
The vendor says:
“The dry clutch sound, combined with a true Ducati engine from an era when 'noise/loudness' was an eye turner. This motorcycle is extremely responsive and rides straight and true - it will not be for everyone though, a great addition to a collection or even to stand out in a normal crowd. An eye catcher.”
