The Appeal
Enthusiasts call it the M Division’s Frankstein, and with good reason, because the Z4M draws together the best bits from across BMW’s high-performance model range. Notably, it’s fitted with the S54 3,2L straight-six engine and drivetrain from the E46 M3, along with the M3 CSL’s braking system.
The car’s party trick is to hide all this uprated spec beneath what looks from the outside and even the inside like a standard Z4. Yet step behind the wheel, and you get the sort of raw, brutal driving experience that 345bhp puts beneath the rear wheels.
This 2006 Z4M is a fine example, largely due to spending its life on the salt-free roads of Japan. Despite the very low mileage, it has clearly been well maintained, as the reams of service history show in the photos. It is factory standard too, remaining just as those dedicated Munich engineers intended.
The car was recently imported to Europe, and we are told that duties and taxes have been paid, with European registration pending. It carries a current Polish technical inspection valid to June 2026.
The vendor says:
“The BMW Z4 M Roadster delivers a truly engaging and analogue driving experience, combining compact dimensions with the raw character of a naturally aspirated performance engine. At its heart is the iconic S54 unit, which delivers strong, linear power and a distinctive sound, making every drive feel special and engaging. The steering is sharp and communicative, and the chassis offers excellent balance, giving the driver real confidence and enjoyment on both winding roads and longer journeys. What I appreciate most about this particular example is its exceptional originality and condition. With very low mileage, original factory paint, and no modifications, it represents a pure and unaltered example of BMW’s M philosophy. It is a car that offers both genuine driving pleasure and strong appeal as a future classic, making it equally rewarding for enthusiasts and collectors alike.”
