The Appeal
It’s no surprise why the El Camino proved so successful. These clever ‘mullet’ cars combined the business at the back, party up front to give buyers, especially ranchers, farmers and smallholders, the best of both worlds. Holden built them in RHD for local markets, sold as the Belmont Utility, and with the option of the firm’s own 308CI 5L V8.
This 308CI 1972 car is one of those, originally supplied to South Africa where it spent most of its life on light duties with a private keeper. It was then extensively restored, including a bare-metal respray in the custom burgundy metallic with black that you see in the photos. The work included overhauling the suspension and brakes and fitting power steering. The extensive work also included a side-exit exhaust and a bespoke leather-trimmed, French Oak-lined interior and rear deck.
The vendor states that this vehicle is a head-turner wherever it goes and runs as it should. A great chance to acquire a show-stopping pick up.
