1982 Ford Fiesta 1.1 ‘Bravo’ Special Edition (Mk1)

Highlights

  • Rare special edition
  • Highly original condition
  • Excellent two-tone paintwork
  • Near pristine interior

The Appeal

The Mk1 Fiesta has gone from being the car that was everywhere in the 80s to one of the rarest cars on the road now. You just don’t see them anymore, which is a real shame as their perky engines, simple design and handsome styling make them a great, usable daily classic.

Here we have an example of the ‘Bravo’ special edition from late in the life of the Mk1. Fitted with the keen little Valencia engine, in extremely original condition and with very low indicated miles, this little gem is ready and waiting to be enjoyed.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in June 1981
  • Historic vehicle status - road tax and MOT exempt
  • Currently SORN
  • Seven owners from new
  • Late special edition Mk1 car
  • Fewer than 20 on the road in the UK, according to ‘How Many Left’
  • SORN from 2011 to 2021, before being returned to the road
  • 12,598 miles indicated (five figure odometer)
  • Complete with a period ‘Fiesta’ sales brochure

The Interior

  • The seats are backed with blue vinyl and faced with a light grey, meshed material
  • All the upholstery is in excellent condition, with the only minor note being a small (approximately 3mm) hole in the fabric of the driver’s seat
  • Light blue carpets show very well indeed, and are complemented with grey Ford branded floor mats
  • Both of the door cards are finished in the sale blue vinyl as the seat backs and look to be in excellent condition
  • The headlining is a light cream perforated vinyl, which appears to be secure, undamaged and unstained
  • Factory fitted glass pop-up sunroof
  • The plastic dash presents in near pristine condition, complete with the original Ford branded radio
  • All of the internal switchgear and driving controls look food, with some light patina from age
  • There are some minor chips and spots of surface corrosion present in the door shuts
  • The boot looks to be in decent condition – the wooden floor panels wear a few scuffs and marks, but underneath the metal looks to be free from damage or corrosion and a full-size spare wheel is present

The Exterior

  • Two-tone blue and silver paintwork is in fine condition, with only a handful of minor blemishes, while a red pinstripe and ‘Bravo’ decals adorn the flanks
  • The brightwork is well finished and in good order, with the bumpers looking particularly smart
  • As far as we can see, all of the external trim is presented in fine fettle and is complete – the car is even still wearing period dealer plates (marked R.C. Edmondson of Fakenham)
  • Wheels are the correct 12-inch steel items and appear to have been either refurbished or replaced, they are shod in a new matched set of HiFly tyres
  • Underneath, the floors appear to be straight and tidy, with no significant corrosion apparent
  • There is a coating of corrosion to most of the mechanical components on the underside, while the sills are also showing some evidence of corrosion, with a hole showing in the front of the near-side sill

The Mechanics

  • ‘Valencia’ 1,117cc inline-four
  • Manual four-speed transmission
  • The front hinged bonnet reveals an engine bay that is in good, clean condition
  • A few engine components wear a little surface corrosion
  • We saw no evidence of leaks or other issues

Summary

Vanishingly rare, with a lovely, original interior and period two-tone paintwork, we think this handsome little hatchback has bags of potential. With a little work to the underside, this could soon be a show-stopping trophy winner.

The safest way to buy a classic car online

Car & Classic's secure payment system protects buyers and sellers. At the end of the auction, the winning bidder transfers payment into a third-party escrow account. Once the transfer of the vehicle is complete, both parties confirm they are happy with the sale and the money is released to the seller.
Safe, secure payment process

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
