The Appeal
Nobody quite expected Mike Hailwood to return in 1978 and nab the Isle of Man TT title, but he did, and to celebrate, Ducati produced the Mike Hailwood Replica, otherwise known as the MHR. There were two versions, both based on the excellent 900SS. The later 1000MHR ‘Mille’ adds a larger engine, more power and sheds 4kg in weight.
Just 1,083 left the works, and this 1986 example is verified as the last to have been registered in the UK. It is in fantastic condition, helped by a full restoration that carefully follows the factory replica colour scheme. The factory specification includes Conti exhausts. It has covered just 22,593 kms (13,610 miles) and, in recent years, has been part of a large high-end specialist bike collection.
Despite the sparing recent use it has been properly maintained.
Contemporary reviewers and modern enthusiasts revere the MHR. Here is a really good, factory-standard example of the improved later ‘Mille’ with low miles and excellent provenance.
The vendor says:
“This is a great opportunity to own a very rare piece of motorcycle history. Which has been well-cared-for and is ready-to-ride.”
