Austin Princess 2200 HL Auto – Very Rare
The Princess was launched to critical acclaim during March 1975 with the strap line “the car that has got it all together”. The Austin was unique in the range featuring trapezoidal headlamps and simple front grill as originally penned by Harris Mann and the car was universally known as “The Wedge”. The innovative styling with transverse engine and front wheel drive provided a large, comfortable interior and the six cylinder engine delivered performance to match making this a very capable car.
Our Princess was registered in South-East London and delivered to its first owner on Valentine’s Day 1979. The car has been in the hands of the third buyer, a careful lady owner, for the last 33 years, always garaged and until 2000 only used for a weekly trip to visit her parents.
The original colour of British Leyland Russet Brown was not to the owners liking and she decided to have the car restored in the early 1990’s including a re-spray in her favourite colour - Toyota White Pearl with a replacement matching vinyl roof to complement the interior. The final affect is stunning and well worth all the effort/ expense. Today the car is one of the best remaining examples in the country.
The car was laid up in 2004, re-commissioned at considerable cost in 2017 and since has covered just 30 miles. The history file contains MOT’s, invoices, & service records back to 1985, pictures of the 1990’s restoration, driver’s handbook and original sales literature.
Today the Princess has covered just 74, 000 and is an absolute credit to the last owner. With light steering and automatic gearbox the car is ready to use & enjoy for the show season.
