Description
The P6 or Rover 2000 was launched in 1963 and promptly won car of the year. It was an advanced design with panels that bolted onto a base unit, disc brakes on all four wheels and de-dion tube rear suspension. The single carburettor version was joined by the TC in 1966 and then in 1968 Rover installed a modified version of the lightweight “Buick” 3500 V8 which gave the car a top speed of over 115mph and 0-60 in around 10 seconds in Automatic form.
This car is a 1971 Rover P6 3500 in Davos White with Toledo red leather trim with matching head-rests and power steering. The mileage is correct at 63, 000 and it has had just four owners from new. It was treated to a comprehensive body and mechanical restoration in 2009/ 10 at great expense and more recently a long list of replacement parts and upgrades, too much to list but in brief - ZF four speed automatic gearbox conversion, custom built electronic speedometer, SD1 cylinder heads with 3. 9 camshaft, Lumenition ignition, heavy-duty rear springs with Gaz shocks, Cibie fog-lights, up-rated anti-roll bar, additional sound-proofing, stainless bumpers and a “Federal spec” ice alert with warning light and test circuit on the dash. Total expenditure in the last few years is approximately twice our asking price.
The result is this outstanding Rover that drives just as well as it looks. The ZF gearbox allows 70mph motorway cruising at just over 2000rpm, better economy and provides much smoother changes than the Borg Warner unit.
We are very keen on the P6 and this one is pretty much unique and in simply immaculate order. Prices are steadily rising but the good news is that these stylish and beautifully built cars are still undervalued. This one offers exceptional value for money.
Comes with a comprehensive history file containing invoices for restoration and upgrades, old MOT’s back to 1976, original dealer pack with service book and spare keys.
