V8 power, four seats and Michelotti styling – the noble Stag has it all.
The Stag is a GT cruiser. Its 3. 0-litre V8 majors on low-down torque, making it ideal for covering long distances, and it makes at least as wonderful a noise as the Rover V8, that was so often transplanted into Stags during the 1980s, ruining the car’s authenticity.
Achingly desirable to look at, and with a sountrack to die for, the Stag had the world at its feet. Yes they came out with a few teething problems but the good news today is that all the teething troubles are well known and most surviving Stags, like this one have been well cared for and put together properly, with specialist knowledge. That leaves us free to enjoy the best of the Stag without worrying about what those tall poppy critics (that mostly never owned one) have to say.
It's now a strong and refined grand tourer that’s simple and cheap to maintain and has one of the best exhaust notes this side of a street rod event.

The Triumph Stag does’t deserve the reputation for fragility they picked up back in the day when they were just another car and neither back street garages of the day nor DIY-minded owners knew how to maintain the alloy V8 properly. If that has spiked your interest in the Stag then you won’t be the only one and as rising values recently have shown, the cars have gained a renewed appreciation. Not that they haven’t always been popular: the Stag boasts the highest survival rate of all the British classics with just over a third of production still on the road.
One should note that concours examples are nowadays fetching even up to GBP30K on the open market, with prices climbing.
