Being offered by us as a project or for restoration is this great and now very rare to find 1972 Datsun 100A “Cherry”. If you check out the “how many left” web site they actually show no 1972 versions left, now I realise that the site is not 100% accurate but this must be one of the last survivors.
And survived it has, mainly due to it having been anti rust treated from new, the original sticker saying so much is still in the back window. There is a wax oil like substance inside all the outer body panels and a coating of underseal underneath. Yes the body has it battle scars but past the odd scabby bit here and there, it is amazingly solid.
Inside has weathered well as well, just the base of the driver’s seat that is really bad, the front passenger seat just has one split in the base. The roof lining, back seat, door cards and dash are all good. Carpets are very dirty and drivers side is worn but they are original and would clean up with some effort, so worth saving. Rear view mirror is missing as is the door check strap on the drivers door. Both front and rear screen rubbers need replacing but there is a pair of new ones with the car.
Mechanically we now have the engine running and it sounds very good (rear exhaust box is blowing) so past a good service I think you can leave well alone. Once warmed through it revs happily and drove in and out of the unit for the pictures, so the clutch engages and the gear box works. Brakes felt low but there are new hoses been fitted on the front so might just need a good bleed. Under the bonnet, the inner wings and bulkhead are very solid. The wheels are nice period alloys but the tyres are undersized and cracked so it will need a full set
Electrically the hooter will work once the nasty after market steering wheel is either refurbed including a new horn push or replaced, everything else works including the heater blower!
These are just my observations and there will be other things I have not noticed hence why it is being sold “as is” it is a project and no you cannot expect to turn up here and drive away in it ( legally).
