Description
Although history was unkind to the 860 GT, some of its misfortune was due to unfortunate timing, like coinciding with a global slump in motorcycle sales and being only kick-start, something not favoured by the US when almost everything out of Japan offered an electric leg. As a consequence, the more European-inspired 860 GTS soon replaced it, and next was the GTE with electrical start.
Today however, the 860 GT’s time has finally arrived, as modern motorcycles adopt a more hard-edged style the Ducati 860 GT has begun to look more contemporary, something few 35-year-old motorcycles can emulate.
This striking 1975 example was delivered new in New Zealand and imported into Australia in 2010. It’s had three owners since, the second of which undertook a bare fame restoration before selling to the last owner who had the bike on NSW club registration up until March 2020. Receipts are on hand for almost $14, 000 spent on the restoration, and prior to selling the last owner spent another $1, 500. 00 having the bike checked over by legendary bevel specialist, Desmo HQ.
