Offered for sale is this 1973 Citroen Ami 8 Break. For enthusiasts of iconic LHD French classic cars, this is the one for you! These are getting rare now.
Th Ami has arrived recently in the UK from Paris, and now fully UK registered with V5 and UK number plates. It is MOT exempt and tax exempt.
This Ami 8 is the estate version giving a very respectable carrying capacity. It is the 602cc car. In the past year it has undergone quite a large mechanical overhaul with a new engine fitted at less than 1000km ago, new brakes, new wheels, tyres, suspension, exhaust, coil, alternator, oil cooler and clutch.
It is simply superb to drive. Willing twin cylinder engine, lots of body roll and excellent ride quality. All the features that make these cars special.
It is totally solid underneath in chassis and floors and it stops, starts, handles and drives exactly as it should. The seats from new were a thin cloth that almost straightway became baggy before ripping. Those in this car haven't survived the 48 years either. The covers are badly torn although the padding seems fine. Replacement covers are available online for around £350.
Bodywise there are a few bruises and age related dints and marks picked up in the busy Paris environment, but nothing that needs immediate attention or that affects the driving. See the pictures. I have tried to be transparent in showing the good and not so good points.
The car is immediately usable and ready to be enjoyed. The new engine is very smooth and quiet for one of these. I personally love these cars. This has had nothing done apart from UK registration, and is ready for a classic car enthusiast. It is certainly not concours, but it is in good shape for nearly 50 years old, and is currently being used daily. The mileage is just over 1020km, so assume it is probably 101, 000 km, but not warranted.
