Sadly i have decided to part with one of my land rovers
stored in my fathers coach house since the 1990's. In the early 2000's my father stripped it down to a rolling chassis . he replaced the front springs, brakes , pipes, cylinders . fuel tank and exhaust
the chassis is very solid with original paint in places. With a couple of minor repairs, he gave it a good coating of wax oil which in fairnes. Is ready for a re-wax. After putting it back together with a new canvas he promptly returned its coach house home where it continues to reside.
however in 2016 it was decided she would be driven from the uk , entered and take part in the 2017 circuit des ardennes road rally in bastogne belgium.
as expected there was a slight hic-up, somewhere between the 90's and 2016 my father had misplaced the paper work ! with help of the series 1 club and a heritage certificate using its original chassis number, it was re registered with an age related number
now resolved she was entered for the circuit des ardennes.
unknown to myself, two other vehicles travelling with me 1928 wolseley and a 1960's mg had a sweepstake between themselves and friends . betting when my old landy would expire or break down.
now back in the uk on the return drive, at a petrol station i over heard a phone call with friend saying " no no it never broke down once"
then a confession unfolded regarding the sweepstake.
however the irony was both their vehicles broke down with me towing the wolsely at one point.
she was built september 1949 for ministry of supply , still with her original early fish plate chassis and retaining the ring pull gearbox, the engine is a later 2 litre side valve
the bulkhead is unusual as the foot wells are alluminium while the top half is steel , i was told it is prototype, it is factory made, with military paint on inside of footwells. It is in good condition
the body work is good with a lovely patina. Inside the rear body is dent free (rare)

she may need some light recommissioning , she had an oil change before parking her up late 2017
at almost 72 years old and obviuosly far from brand new, some may want to replace with new seats etc, or be like me just use and enjoy :)
for viewings i will need a little notice. Last week i fell off a ladder dislocating and fracturing my shoulder. hopefully a friend will liberate my fathers coach house and drive it my home
SHE IS NOW BACK AT MINE :) AND I HAD FORGOT HOW WELL SHE DRIVES( OBVOIUSLY I WAS THE PASSENGER) MY FRIEND HAD NEVER DRIVEN A SERIES ONE OR ANY LAND ROVER BEFORE, SAID " HE REALLY ENJOYED IT AND NOW UNDERSTOOD WHY PEOPLE LIKE THEM".
THE ENGINE PULLED WELL WITHOUT ANY SMOKE AND TICKED OVER LIKE A SOWING MACHINE.
THE BRAKES AND HAND BRAKE WORK WELL
THE INDICATORS, SIDE AND MAIN LIGHTS INCLUDING HIGH&DIP, BRAKE LIGHTS, HORN WIPER AND WASHER ALL FUNCTION CORRECTLY
THE CHASSIS IS VERY GOOD !
A COUPLE OF THINGS I DID NOTICE, THE TIRES HAVE CRACKS IN THE SIDEWALLS AND THE SPEEDOMETER APPEARS TO HAVE STOPPED WORKING.
