Description
VA64 ECX is an incredibly rare, sought after and interesting example of a Land Rover 90 having been subject to a fully electric conversion by renowned specialists Electrogenics Ltd. The 90 was first registered on the 31st of December 2014 and spent nine years in typical Defender regular use. In February 2023 VA64 ECX was purchased by its 4th owner with the purpose of being converted into a fully electric Defender. £76, 000 was spent on converting the Land Rover, giving it a new lease of life and effortless performance.
Electrogenic LTD of Oxfordshire took the Land Rover in and superbly reworked the Land Rover using their unique experience in converting classic cars. Maintaining a level of originality is challenging when it comes to re-imagining a vehicle though Electrogenic utilised the original chassis and body without any requirement for modification in addition to the original transfer case. Powering the Land Rover is a 160bhp, 310Nm water-cooled electric motor which reflects similar power output to the original engine. The engine is situated in the front of the vehicle keeping the driving dynamics similar to that of a petrol Defender. The motor puts power through a 2. 9:1 single speed reduction gearbox and the aforementioned original transfer case which provides smooth, capable, and quiet acceleration. There are 3 driving profiles available as well as a unique off-roading driving system. When it comes to charging the car, there is a 6. 6kW Type 2 AC charging that gets from 0-100% in 10hours and a 60kW CCS Type 2 rapid charging that gets from 20-80% in just 40 minutes. Electrogenic Ltd build the cars to R100. 01 compliant standards and with this specification expected range is 120 miles on normal road conditions.
This Land Rover is a very unique example that encapsulates the significant change in automotive history with the impact of electric vehicles. With a first-class conversion it would make for an outstanding collector's piece as a unique example.
