The MG Midget is a spyder-type car produced by the British car manufacturer from 1961 to 1979, which enjoyed great success among the public with more than 220, 000 units produced.
A car with a classic yet elegant design, weighing just 715kg, the MG Midget had a wheelbase of 2. 3m, a height of 1. 2m and a width of just 1. 3m. Only available in 2 seats, the Midget was remodeled in 1974 following new automotive safety regulations.
The suspension set-up was raised, the hood became longer and sloping, while new absorption bumpers were added at the front. The latest version of the Midget to be sold on the market was the MG Midget 1500, on the market until 1980. A small, agile and fast car with a sporty appearance, the Midget is a perfect car for classic lovers. English spiders.
The MG Midget until 1971 was in all respects similar to another British vintage car: the BMC Austin-Healey Sprite, which had a bodywork and mechanics practically identical to that of the Midget. From 1974, however, with the new changes to the body of the latter, the two models differed more: the Sprite also did not have the same success as its more modern "cousin", so much so that from 1971 it ceased to exist on the list. Some MG Midgets were also produced in special Coupé versions, but mainly intended for track racing.
The engines of the MG Midget initially were not particularly powerful: those of the first models offered a displacement of 948 cm³ and 45 hp, or 1098 cm³ and 50 hp. Only in the '70s more performing engines were introduced such as the 4-cylinder in-line with a displacement of 1493 cm³ with a power of 70hp: this engine derived from that of the Triumph Spitfire. Although the engines were not extremely powerful, the car was fast and agile, so much so that the 60s models already exceeded 150 km / h top speed, going from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 14 seconds.
