1976 Series 3 SWB 2. 25 petrol.
First registered on 1st April 1976 as LAM875P by TH White Land Rover.
Superbly finished in period correct Welsh grey (LRC008) or mid grey.
It was sold by the first owner on 13th January 1984. The second owner (who died) owned it until June 2013 when it was put in his sister’s name as part of the legacy estate. Thus 2 real owners who drove the vehicle before the 4th and last owner.
Last tax disc was 1991 and mileage recorded was 64000 so believed mileage is genuine.

Purchased in September 2017 by the last owner, a LR enthusiast who has restored many series 2’s and 3’s over the past 15 years, it then when through a virtual nut and bolt restoration which was completed and back on the road in July 2020. The base vehicle was in remarkably good condition with solid bulkhead in the important places and included original overdrive and free wheeling hubs.
This is a brief resume of the level and detail of works carried out:
A new galvanised chassis by Richards Chassis
4 Cylinder 3 bearing Petrol 2. 25 litre fully reconditioned and runs beautifully (now covered just over 1900 miles since rebuild) The engine and gearbox are original to the car.
Fully dismantled engine. Bores honed to +0. 20 thou but crank was perfect and bearing shells replaced as matter of course albeit original shells were unmarked.
Unleaded head conversion
Electronic ignition, new spark Plugs, fuel tank, exhaust System complete (stainless steel), new cooling System, water pump and Hoses. Reconditioned steering box with all new steering Joints, steering Relay
Transmission overhaul including original Land Rover Swivel Housings, new Bearings and seals all round. New Axle Pinion Oil Seals, axle Lubricants and differentials replaced with reconditioned units.
Complete new Borg & Beck clutch assembly, new clutch master and slave cylinders, hydraulic Hose and new output shaft seals.
Suspension overhaul including replacement springs which give a great ride (not too hard) and new axle bump stops.
Full braking System overhaul including all new master cylinder, brake cylinders front & rear, hoses, brake shoes including handbrake shoes and copper brake pipes throughout.
The bulkhead only required A posts and footwells. Original spec footwells & A posts welded in and new complete front doors and door tops and all cappings re galvanised, new locks and wing mirrors. Original tailgate was in great condition.
New front wing skins and new rear wing and rear quarter panels along with new tub floor. Galvanised tub supports and new storage box in seat base
The interior has benefited from new deluxe seats & head restraints, inertia front seatbelts and new rear bench seats
Full black Leather dash & steering wheel with contrasting grey stitch give a luxury touch and a new rubber mat to the load area.
Full bare metal respray after whole body sand blasted. Finished in two pack Welsh Grey with white Wheels Tyres 5 x Michelin Latitude (Defender spec)
New Undercover Covers sand canvas hood with side windows.
A lovely Land Rover to drive with an excellent gearbox and a sweet engine and the luxury of additional overdrive as required gives more pace and ability over distance. By LR standards this is a comfortable easy driving series that looks effortlessly cool in Welsh grey and is ready for anything you can throw at it.
If you are after a top notch Series 3 that somebody else has spent a huge amount of time and expense restoring then this cool rag top could be the example for you. Additional peace of mind that there will be no unknown bills other than regular oil services and general annual maintenance.
