The “Big Healey” of our hart!
At the beginning of our classic car carreer, 30 years ago, Austin Healey sportscars were a very regular sight in our classic car garage.
The initial reflex assuming: “the bigger the Healey the better!” which favoured the ultimate 3000 models, was rapidly corrected when looking at, and certainly when driving the initial 100/ 4 versions powered by the 4-cylinder 2600cc engine.
As is often the case in the evolution history of a classic car, the pure, initial concept and design seems to be appreciated better.
This is exactly what classic car collectors think nowadays of the Austin Healey 100/ 4 constructed on the shorter wheelbase and powered by the torquy 4-cylinder 2. 6 liter engine, which makes the balance of the car just fabulous.
But also the purity of the esthetics of this 100/ 4 model is simply considered as iconic. Just admire the low sleek lines of this typical British sportscar, and I am sure you will agree…
Last but not least is the very attractive “Ice Blue” colour (original colour specification for this chassis!) which suits this model just perfectly.
As with most of the Austin Healey production, also this 100/ 4 was initially sold to the USA.
Approximatively 10 years ago this Austin Healey came back to the “old continent” and benefitted in Holland from a bare chassis onwards full restoration.
Studying the well documented restoration file & photos makes it clear that this “Big Healey” is supersound which allows the classic car specialist Oosterbroek to perform in 2013-2014 a very straightforward state of the art restoration.
Knowing this 1953 Austin Healey 100/ 4 is eligible, my Dutch customer Ton had the excellent idea to enter his “Big Healey” into the 2019 Mille Miglia for which the car was accepted and to which, as could be expected, the car performed faultlessly!
Participating at the Mille Miglia in this type of sportscar must be a heavenly experience…
