The origin story of the 1992 Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione 1 “Sacca Intercooler” is a masterclass in exploiting motorsport rulebooks. To gain a competitive edge in the World Rally Championship (WRC), Lancia needed a way to spray water onto the intercooler mounted at the front to cool the intake charge and maximise power during gruelling stages.

Group A regulations dictated that any technology used on the rally car had to be present on the road-going production models. To fulfil this mandate, Lancia built a highly limited initial run of the Evo 1 featuring a rubber water bag (sacca) mounted in the boot, complete with full plumbing, wiring, and dual pumps leading to the front bumper. Ironically, to comply with local vehicle safety and warranty laws across different commercial showrooms, Lancia left the system fully installed and mapped, but intentionally disconnected the final electronic triggers at the factory—leaving it up to enthusiastic owners (and the Martini Racing team) to reconnect the circuit and unleash the car’s true performance potential.

We’re delighted to offer one of these rare Evo 1s, presented in very good condition and benefiting from a great deal of mechanical work carried out during current ownership.

The vendor says:

“For the Delta, we have done the complete distribution (engine out) and changed all 4 shocks with 4 original ones. Checked all rubbers and gaskets of the AC system, performed alignment, changed radiator, performed an oil change, brake fluid, plus other minor interventions.”

As the photographs attest, this is a very well-presented example that appears to be in exceedingly good condition for its age. Red really suits those sharp lines, and it’s nicely offset by the black interior and silver alloy wheels. The vendor has evidently taken great care of this car, and the finish quality in areas like the underside and wheel wells speaks volumes about the attention it has received.

The under-bonnet presentation of this car is very good, and the vendor tells us they’ve carried out significant mechanical work during their ownership, alongside regular servicing, to ensure the Lancia is in good driving order.
