Motodrome offer this charming 1970 example of the ever-popular Land Rover Series IIa, this one a late-period petrol ‘maltese cross’ wide-headlight model 88in, finished in it’s original colour of Marine Blue.

A high-spec example, this one is fitted with: overdrive, freewheel front hubs, a matching set of Michelin tyres on refurbished limestone rims, bonnet mounted spare wheel, wing mirrors, mudflaps, and towbar

Inside it has 3 deluxe seats across the front, twin rear bench seats (making it a 7 seater at a pinch) flat Smiths heater, and floor mats. It’s also fitted with a vintage CB radio, although we haven’t tested this.

As per the photos, it’s currently in softtop configuration. We also have the limestone hardtop and full-height rear door in Marine Blue which can come with the vehicle if required, at no extra cost.

It’s fitted with a period-correct 241-prefix 2. 25 engine (probably the original) with Weber carburettor, which has been converted to run on unleaded fuel, and runs sweetly.

VRD is quite unusual these days in that it doesn’t appear to have been a previously-derelict or unloved example. Instead it seems to have been on the road all it’s life , well cared for, and not ‘restored’

We have a lovely history for VRD. It’s heritage certificate shows it was originally a local car, being sold new by T Baker and Sons of Reading, and indeed the first 3 MOT’s we have from 1974 show it was MOT’d by the garage in the next village to us, who still do a lot of work on our behalf.

Whilst we won’t warrant it, the odometer reading of 47000m is likely to be correct seeing as we have 23 paper MOT’s from 1974, and computerised MOT’s from 2006 which support the mileage.

V5 shows just 5 former keepers, the last two being father and then son following bereavement.

We have a big stack of bills and history, not to mention the aforementioned MOT’s. Recent highlights include remanufactured cylinder head in 2017, rebuilt gearbox in 2018, new clutch and flywheel in 2020. Last serviced at 46062 miles.

Overall it’s one of the nicest, most unmessed with Series IIa’s I’ve seen for a long time, and should tick a lot of boxes..

On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions.
