Description
The Lotus Europa was yet another genius stroke by the immortal Colin Chapman. This example from the Second Series was registered in England on the 23rd of September 1969. In 2016, the Europa was acquired by the vendor, a Lotus aficionado and talented spare time mechanic, as a restoration project. From 2017 to 2019 the little mid-engined rocket was restored by himself as far as tooling and infrastructure allowed. The glass fibre coachwork was separated from the chassis, restored and repainted. The chassis itself had all corrosion removed and was repainted and reunited with the body with new dampers, springs and overhauled front and rear suspensions. The electrical wiring and the fuel tank are new and the complete technical bits including the braking system were overhauled or renewed. The dashboard and both seats were replaced together with the carpets. The rest of the interior was restored where necessary. The engine had been overhauled a number of years before and has since covered roughly 1’000 kilometres. Since completion of the work and following the Veteran MOT, completed in September 2019, this great Lotus has been driven a mere 300 kilometres and correspondingly presents itself in excellent condition.
