The Mk4 Cortina came out in September 1976 so this is an early car, having been registered 15 December 1976, with original light tan interior, this colour was soon replaced by a much darker tan. The Mk4 was only made for a short period of time so is now the rarest of the Cortina range. We purchased the car, which was first registered in Swansea, in August 2016, the mileage on the MOT carried out on 4 August 2016 was 20, 343 it is now showing 26, 539. I am pleased to say the intervening miles have been trouble free, other than routine servicing the car has had the brakes completely overhauled, a new steering rack, new carburettor, exhaust system, electronic distributor, plug leads, poly bushes fitted to the rear suspension, new water pump and thermostat, new cambelt and starter motor.
Fortunately, we have the DVLA history which tells us the first, second and third owners lived in the same road in Swansea. It then went to its forth owner in the same area of Swansea. In 2014 it was acquired by its fifth owner in Lincolnshire who told me he renovated the car replacing the sills and front wings, he did not touch the engine, gear box or back axle as 'they didn't need doing'. Other than the original handbook and V5 the car lacked any paperwork. Looking at the general amazing condition of the interior; upholstery, steering wheel, gear lever knob, handbrake grip etc., and the way the car drives the mileage may well be accurate, however, sadly there is nothing to substantiate this so the mileage cannot be warranted.
During our ownership we have compiled a comprehensive Diary showing known history, expenditure and events attended. As will be gathered from this we have derived much enjoyment from owning the car, a new chapter in life means it is now time for it to go to a new owner and give as much pleasure as it has to us.
