THE Triumph 2000 range ran from 1963 until 1977 but, as with so many makes and models, the majority of people looking back tend to agree that the original design - i. e. the Mark 1 - still stands out as being the best of the entire range. Bordering on a futuristic look when launched, this straight-six, twin carb 2-litre sports saloon was an enormous success. As a car-mad youngster, I was fascinated by that quirky dashboard with its strange array of curves, switchgear and white clocks. It still looks great today! This is the manual/ overdrive model, widely perceived to be the pick of the range. She is a really pretty example in that popular Triumph combination of Conifer Green with red interior. A great driver and also a car which offers so much fun when you are behind the wheel.
The sills, inner and outer on this monocoque model, tend to be troublesome after time but this fine old example has had new ones very neatly fitted and also, I would suggest, very recently.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 56-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. I am not a garage, nor am I a showroom. I do not subject them to rigorous tests and inspections. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. The majority of these ancient motors will need degrees of restoration or re-commissioning. They are not intended to be everyday cars; they are aimed at the enthusiast, the classic car lover and the diy motor mechanic and body man. They are hobby cars; there to be tinkered with and enjoyed. Please accept them as being in their own context as context is all.
