HERE is a 1954 Mg Magnette ZA with the early style tin dashboard top and different gauges from the later models. It is three weeks older than me (fascinating I know!). The old girl is nearly 70-years-old. She has had little use during the past few years but, all the same, she started and drove through the gears when she arrived last month. Today she decided not to let the clutch work when I needed to move her. I have neither the time nor the inclination to deal with this. She can go now as a project for £2995. There are no offers on that. I think she is drawing air from the fuel tank and thus runs spot on when I eliminate the tank and run her from a petrol can in the boot directly into the electric fuel pump. I reckon she would tidy up a great deal with some elbow grease to the paintwork. Interior is not too bad and the original leather has held up reasonably well. She has a Gold Seal engine and had new floors and sills around 15 years ago. All in all, a bargain buy of an early ZA. Nothing pretentious about her and it's the sort of classic where a little tinkering will take you a long way.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 68-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote.
I have now been established as a one-man band classic car dealer for 20 years and pride myself on my buying prowess and - due to small margins - my prices which I firmly believe are up there among the very best in the UK classic car marketplace.
Thanks, Martin. the details below.
