EXTERIOR
Something of a fashionable colour today – British Racing green suits the squat super saloon dimensions of this M3 very well indeed; particularly offset by the GT’s aerodynamic splitter, rear wing and polished Motorsport wheels. Having been totally stripped to bare metal and treated to a fresh coat of 312 BRG by Vines BMW the finish is excellent with lights, trims and rubbers all either replaced or restored contributing to this high standard homologation special.
Sitting slightly lower than the standard E36 – shorter, stronger springs were installed from factory to cope with extra down force generated by the fully extended front splitter and rear spoiler.
INTERIOR
The interior of the GT is immediately recognisable with its Amaretta anthracite interior trim alongside Mexico Green nappa leather seat centres, door inserts and grab handles. The Vader seats show excellent contour and shape, outlined by an elegant green stitching to the bolsters, while the rear seats show little to no use whatsoever. The factory sunroof operates as it should whilst the surrounding Headlining is taut and clean from front to back. The original BMW Reverse RDS radio / cassette is pleasingly still in situ.
A great deal of love and care has been invested in restoring and enhancing the unique cabin space with two subtle differences – Carbon fibre trim on centre console / glove box, as per the Euro variant, and a steering wheel now wrapped in soft Alcantara.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The E36 was the first M3 to utilize an inline-6 and this fully rebuilt S50 engine is a work of art with a broad torque range and that sonorous 6-pot sound. Presentation is absolutely first class throughout and the engine bay looks as clean today as it was first delivered in 1995. At the first turn of the key the engine fires into life, idling correctly up to temperature with a meaningful engine note amplified by a twin rolled Milltek exhaust; offering a sharp bark upon load without any unnecessary boom or drone entering the cabin.
As part of the restoration process the engine was completely stripped and rebuilt to factory specification alongside a total overhaul of the drivetrain with a new clutch / flywheel, new prop shaft, rebuilt differential and fresh seals for the gearbox to ensure mechanical peace of mind. To conclude, the underside is a clean as the top with total commitment to the creation of a ‘zero mile’ example.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This GT is equipped with the forged M double-spoke alloys which are a lighter alternative to the standard E36 M3 wheels. Fitted in a staggered configuration, with 7. 5×17″ wheels on the front and 8. 5×17″ wheels on the rear, all of the wheels are in pristine condition wrapped in as new Yokohama Advan tyres.
The braking system has been overhauled and performance is as you would expect – pulling the car up to a stand still quickly and smoothly.
HISTORY FILE
First registered on the 1st of December, 1995, this GT was first registered by Whitehouse Ruxley in Kent. A fortnight later the car would return to Cotswold BMW for it’s running in service at 1, 397 miles.
The original service book shows a fabulous continuous history with 23 stamps provided by a combination of the main dealer, Gloucester BMW specialists and latterly local BMW gurus – Walkers Autotech – who were responsible for the restoration process over the last 8 years. Vines BMW were not only tasked with providing all parts necessary to bring the car back to showroom standard, with invoices totalling over £40, 000 all itemised in a wonderful leather bound history file, but would also go on to restore the factory Racing green bodywork. The results are simply stunning and a fitting tribute a dedicated working relationship between main dealer and M3 specialist, with images of the parts and process all neatly showcased on a USB stick.
The car sits here in our showroom looking factory fresh having covered less than 100 miles since restoration – on the button and ready to go. Amongst a myriad of service invoicing and mot certificates in the aforementioned history folder that covers the cars first life, it is provided with a complete owners book pack and spare key.
